"Da-da Bah-bah"
Yay!
Gavin was getting ready for work and Uly knew it!
It's so weird--he doesn't say a whole lot of words so I was totally surprised to hear him put these two together. I was in for another shock when I took him to the science museum and he correctly identified a very large whirling structure as an "atom". I assume he must have remembered either one or both of us calling it that on previous visits because I hadn't said it yet on this visit. It totally blew me away. I guess it just goes to show that sometimes we are only willing to talk about stuff we're really interested in.
Words I've heard him say so far:
Mama, Dada, Nana (boobs), shoe, dah-dah (dog), fshhh (fish), atom, dis (this), more, mi-uk (milk, nana), no, yeah, yum-yum, wowie (I say this a lot), uh-oh, "kah" (cat), Hello, buh-bye
If I'm missing any I hope someone will fill me in.
Exciting times ahead!

Uly Hating the Snow

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who checked in to say "hi" in my shameless "who's watching?" post. Good to know there are Uly fans out there and you're staying tuned. I'll try and keep this up for ya'll :)
Let's see... where are we? It seems like every time I sit down to write about this weeks Uly I can't remember hardly any of the new things he's doing or the funny things he did. And there are so many! Here are a few of the Big Deals in his life currently:
Cooking:
I do everything I can to include him in this part of my work and the result has been extremely positive. My original plan for getting dinner done was to have Gramma Moe come over an hour before dinner time and do everything she could to distract him, which was only moderately successful. We got some good dinners out of it but not without some high levels of stress as Uly often prefered to be glued to mommy. Many a vegetable I chopped one-handed... Judie trooped through this arrangment for many months and then I started prepping different parts of the dinner through-out the day, whenever Uly would give me a little hands-free baby time. Dinners were as elaborate as he would permit. We ate a lot of take-out during that phase :D.
Well things are much different for us now and it all began with the food processor and a nice, big dish of au gratin potatoes (thinly sliced new potatoes, heavy whipping cream, salt and pepper and gruyere cheese broiled on top, in case you were wondering). I think it was Gavin's birthday, I'm not sure, but it was some holiday and I was going to be busy cooking and knew I was on my own. Anyway, to make a long story short, I put Uly on the counter and had him put potatos in the machine, push the button, and then remove the sliced potatoes and put them in the pan (I removed the sharp parts first...). He poured in the whipping cream and had a BLAST salting and peppering. Basically, he did almost all of it and with the most magnificently steady hand. His coordination is admirable. Anyhow, it was a lot of fun as well as do-able and makes all the difference. We cook together all the time now. I just make sure to get all the ingredients out before hand to ease the operation. It does take a lot longer but who cares. It's the journey, not the destination, right?
Gardening:
We're still on the journey here, too. No, my landscaping doesn't look professional (yet) and probably won't for a few long years, but no matter. We're having fun! Right now the focus is on trimming what hasn't been trimmed for the past three years. Uly holds the trimmers and I help him squeeze them shut (and prevent him from injury--though he doesn't know that...) I dig part of a hole and Uly takes the shovel and takes a crack at it, though mainly he just forgets there's a hole and falls in it :D. We love being outide in the cold and rain--just not the wind
Speaking of the devil... He just woke up
